A specialist online project collaboration software company based in Sunderland is hoping to break into new international markets and expand its workforce following its acquisition by a leading US construction industry software supplier.
4Projects, based at Doxford International Business Park, supplies award winning project and BIM (Building Information Modeling) collaboration software for the construction industry which allows architects, designers, project managers, contractors and sub-contractors working on a building and infrastructure projects to house documents such as drawings, specifications, emails and contracts on a secure, easily accessible online platform.
The technology has been used to manage projects such as the construction of the London 2012 Olympic Park and Wimbledon Centre Court.
The company counts 18 of the top 20 UK construction contractors as its customers as well as hundreds of businesses in non- related sectors.
Now, following an acquisition in early February by Viewpoint Construction Software, based in Portland, Oregon, 4Projects will see their software sold across Viewpoint’s existing customer markets in the US, Canada and Australia.
4Projects, which was established in 2000, currently employs 61 members of staff and boasts a portfolio of clients that includes some of the largest names in the architecture, engineering and construction business.
As well as opening up opportunities in international markets, the acquisition will allow 4Projects to benefit from additional resource and leadership to aid further innovation and development of new and existing products.
4Projects is taking on eight new members of staff at its Sunderland headquarters to deal with the expected increase in demand with roles including client consultants, web developers and systems administrators being recruited and more vacancies to follow throughout the year.
Richard Vertigan, founder and CEO of 4Projects said: “We are absolutely delighted to be a part of Viewpoint, our entire team is energised by the opportunities ahead and our role in Viewpoint’s future strategic direction.
“Bringing our exceptional team of collaboration software specialists to Viewpoint’s dynamic group of enterprise resource planning, enterprise content management and mobile software professionals, creates a diverse and talented group focused on addressing the challenges faced by the modern construction industry.”
Jay Haladay, CEO of Viewpoint Construction Software said: “We are very pleased to welcome the 4Projects team and their customers to the Viewpoint family and we will be focused on delivering game changing technology solutions.
“We look forward to providing the 4Projects team with additional resources and construction-specific software leadership to increase their already industry leading pace of product innovation in collaboration functionality.”
The acquisition follows the news in January that 4Projects overtook its closest competitor to become the number one provider of construction project collaboration software in the UK.
