Job Title: Web Designer

Reports to: Senior Designer  

Grade: Graduate Intern

Working Hours: 9am -  5pm 

Location: Darlington

The Graduate Internship Scheme is collaboration between the University of Sunderland, a recent Graduate and a regional SME. The Scheme has been designed to benefit both the Graduate and the company, ensuring that the Graduate takes the first steps on the career ladder whilst the company benefits from the Graduates enthusiasm, expertise and up to date knowledge.  

The Internship is a full time position, for a 6 month period based at the company’s location.

The Company:  This energetic company is a leading internet marketing company with offices across the UK. Together with a strong web development service and the ability to offer a low cost web hosting packages, we offer a range of marketing solutions to support leading brands such as JVC, Costa Coffee and KFC. 

 The Role:  You will use your creative flare to create graphic designs for web, print and building websites.   The successful candidate will also be required to design material for social media and marketing campaigns for customers and in house requirements.  You will be responsible for working closely with clients to keep website’s stylish, modern and up to date with competitors. When it comes to web design we are committed to working together to achieve our clients’ vision.

Main  Purpose of the role:

To use your creative flare to create graphic designs for web, print and building websites. The successful candidate will also be required to design material for social media and marketing campaigns for customers and in house requirements. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and web development work following client brief 
  • Planning and quoting for projects 
  • Manage in house e mail campaigns 
  • Print design
  • Social media design
  • Designing materials for internal marketing 
  • Developing and following company/departmental processes 
  • Use the CRM and complete timesheets 
  • Work with the sales team to aid sales process 
  • Communicate with customers as required 
  • Assisting with the successful running of the general office including maintaining a tidy and respectable workspace, answering the telephone and forwarding messages together with assisting customer queries 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign 
  • HTML/CSS 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Knowledge:

  • Graphic design
  • Social media marketing
  • Email marketing best practice
  • Accessibility compliance
  • SEO best practice

Customer Care:

Understands and responds to customer needs. Provides the most appropriate service for that customer for the right cost. 

Knowing the Business: 

Understand the business goals, values, products and services.

Communicates clearly and effectively with clients and colleagues 

Team Working:

Understands the requirements of own role, prepared to assist others when necessary. Helps out during peaks and troughs. Always treats fellow workers with respect.

Prioritises, plans, and carries out tasks.

Can demonstrate a “can do attitude” and finds ways within own area to improve existing methods and procedures of working.

Required / Desirable Qualifications:

Degree in a relevant subject area
