The Digital Catapult North East & Tees Valley (NETV) was established by Sunderland Software City (SSC), who were successfully awarded the project. The centre operates on behalf of the two regional LEPs and 5 universities, funded in part by Innovate UK, the Digital Catapult promotes development and the early adoption of advanced digital technology
In 2017, nationally the Digital Catapult had meaningful engagements with more than
- 600 start ups & scale ups,
- developed 42 new industrial collaborations
- 31 new academic engagements
- and continues to impact the growth and adoption of advanced digital technology.
What does the Digital Catapult NETV do?
We focus our work on existing regional strengths such as manufacturing. W we work hard to enable start-ups and scale ups in the region to work with large organisations and corporates, by offering our knowledge and expertise. Above all, we aim to educate and inform both digital and non-digital companies on the value of adopting and incorporating emerging technologies.
Using our established and proven business challenge format, we work closely with our corporate clients to establish a realistic focus on existing challenges based on open innovation methods. We work in partnership to explore potential solutions and open up the challenges to the SME community. By bridging the gap between the region’s biggest players and the thriving SME tech community, we can create a real impact in the adoption and growth of digital in the North East & Tees Valley.
Recently we have become focused on advocating ethical innovation, which ensures both our SME community and corporate clients are prepared so that they can get the most from working together- we present real challenges that bring about real opportunities.
The Immersive Lab North East Tees Valley
The Immersive Lab NETV is a physical space created to allow our clients to come and explore the real life application and potential of cutting edge immersive technology. Home to Virtual Reality (VR) headsets, Augmented Reality (AR) devices like the Hololens and a great green screen, the Immersive Lab creates an opportunity for businesses to explore how they can use and apply this kind of technology in the early stages of planning and development. Without the costly initial investment needed to purchase this specialised kit themselves, we can support and encourage adoption of this technology until our client is in a position to bring this into their portfolio.
PROTO- The Emerging Technology Centre
