Digital Catapult North East & Tees Valley

The Digital Catapult North East Tees Valley (NETV) is one of three regional centers for innovation. Headed up by a central team based in London, the regional centers are strategically based around the UK to support local businesses as they adopt emerging technologies.

Established in 2015 and delivered by Sunderland Software City on behalf of the central Digital Catapult, the North East Tees Valley team support businesses from across the North of England to encourage the adoption of emerging technologies and educate on the potential impact that this can have on productivity and performance.

The Digital Catapult NETV focuses on existing regional strengths, such as manufacturing, automotive and the social sector, bringing relevant support and opportunities to the region. To date, these include managing the Immersive Lab facility (housed within emerging technology research and development hub, PROTO), launching a bespoke Digital Manufacturing Programme and running a National Assistive Technology Testbed Pilot on behalf of Sunderland City Council.

The Digital Catapult NETV works hard to create commercial opportunities for start ups, scale ups and SME’s by educating traditionally ‘non-digital’ businesses about the potential application of emerging technologies (think Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Blockchain and the Internet of Things). Using a tried and tested Business Challenge format, the team support corporate clients to tackle business problems by engaging with the local start up ecosystem.

Additionally, the Digital Catapult NETV team work closely with local start ups to ensure that they are equipped with the governance, infrastructure and knowledge to provide products and services to larger, international clients.
