Go Reboot – the programme which provides an introduction to the North East technology sector to individuals not in employment or education – is celebrating its most recent success story. Prior to joining Go Reboot, Daniel Fletcher struggled to find suitable employment and found this to have a negative affect on his focus and motivation.
The Go Reboot team, who work with a wide range of North East businesses on the successful programme, including Consult and Design, Sage and Nissan, introduced Daniel to industry specialists including Sunderland Software Centre based bullet-time filmmakers, New World Design as well as Cal Kilpatrick from Generator, who then introduced him to their Ladders Programme; a 12-week mentorship providing employment skills for 18-24 year olds who are interested in the film, music and software sector. Daniel immediately signed up for the session and had this to say about his overall experience: “Go Reboot really helped me understand and open my eyes as to what is available to me. I loved meeting and talking to the various businesses and I now have a clear idea of what to do to get my filmmaking career started. I would say to anyone thinking of taking part in Go Reboot to definitely do it; it is totally different from any course I’ve done before and I definitely feel more confident about my future thanks to Robert and Jill.”
Training and Delivery Manager at Sunderland Software City, Jill McKinney, is thrilled that Daniel has gained so much from the experience and said “It’s fantastic to see the region’s support programmes helping young people, like Daniel, turn their lives around and take steps towards their desired careers. For people out of work or education, it can seem very daunting knowing where to go next but we have multiple projects available that can really make a difference to their lives”.
