Careers in tech

Driven by a passion for museums and culture, Rose dedicated a significant portion of her career to immersive creative projects. This passion for dynamic work allowed her to work in a range of organisations, ranging from Seven Stories to the National Railway Museum.

Despite having no experience in the tech sector, Rose’s career took a turn in 2023 when she transitioned from the Lead Interactive Gallery Curator at the Science Museum to Digital Producer at Enigma Interactive. But what inspired her to make this move?

Attending Tech Talent Live

After seeing an advertisement pop up on social media for Tech Talent Live, as part of TechNext, it sparked an interest.

Although the tech sector was unchartered territory, the opportunity to chat with a range of employers sparked a new perspective.

Career events are a great way for individuals to network, chat with employers and find out more about the opportunities that are available in the region. For Rose, a chance encounter with Enigma Interactive led to her being offered a role.

Chatting with Sally Taffs, Director of Holistic Projects at Enigma Interactive, Rose gained an insight into the tech world and it became evident that her creative background held many transferrable skills in tech.

When Sally explained there was an opportunity coming up in the team, Rose eagerly embraced the chance to apply.

Role as Digital Producer

If there’s one lesson Rose learned from attending the careers event it's that anyone can choose to pursue a tech career, regardless of their background.

Having worked across a diverse range of organisations in the creative industries, Rose gained key skills such as project management, teamwork, and the ability to be a strong team player – attributes essential for success in the tech landscape.

Working as a Digital Producer at Enigma Interactive, no two days are the same. Digital Producers are typically tasked with leading the design and development of websites or applications, as well as conducting workshops to determine how digital solutions can help clients achieve their goals.

In this role, Rose is responsible for managing a team of three developers and overseeing the implementation of digital strategies for various clients.

"I'm essentially the interface between the client and the development team, ensuring the project objectives are understood and agreeing on realistic timelines to achieve them."

Advice for others?

After spending most of her career working in the arts sector, Rose has one piece of advice – take every opportunity that you can.

“It’s great to have multiple experiences in life and your career. So, in your current job, take every opportunity that you can. When I look at the things I’ve done and the moves I have made, it’s a sum of lots of small steps.
“For example, if I hadn’t done certain projects, then I might not have got to this point. Although it’s not a traditional career path, I’ve always taken every opportunity I can.”
