PHP Freelance Developer (Part Time)

About the Project

CWP is an exciting new startup founded in the North East of England to address the growing problem of managing food allergies and special dietary requirements which have been gaining increasing press coverage of late.

With over 25 years’ of experience in the food industry and a strong advisor network consisting of both accomplished entrepreneurs and food industry experts, CWP are seeking a part time PHP developer to help deliver an exciting roadmap as they re-develop their prototypes into a more scalable solution fit for paying customers.

The target launch date is Q2 2020, after which the role can become full time with ambitious career paths available for the right individuals. The current team consists of an experienced food consultant as well as an experienced technologist – all required support to do the job will be readily at hand.

Working Environment

Because this role is part time and fully remote, it can be worked alongside a full time job in order to increase your exposure and skills/experience to new technologies and projects.

All that is asked is a minimum of 1-2 days per week (can be spread over evenings/weekends) in exchange for an exciting remuneration and benefits package which will include equity in the business for the right candidate who has an interest in longer term involvement.

Required Technical Skills

The ideal candidate will have:-

  • 3 years or greater experience software development experience with an object oriented PHP MVC framework e.g. Symfony, Laravel, Yii or Cake PHP;
  • Working knowledge of data/schema design best practice;
  • Working knowledge of unit testing best practice;
  • Working knowledge of client side technologies and tooling – at least one JavaScript development framework (e.g. React/VueJS) or library (e.g. jQuery);

For extra bonus points:-

  •  Experience working with Amazon Web Services or similar cloud compute platform;
  •  Practical experience with payment gateways;
  • A keen interest in food/cooking (not essential);

Required Non-Technical (“Soft”) Skills

The ideal candidate will have:-

  • An interest in working for young/startup companies;
  • Ambitious – wanting to progress their career to engineering/technical management level;
  • A keen interest in product development, and proficiency in interpreting functional requirements;
  • Strong communication skills – if something doesn’t seem right, don’t be afraid to question and push back;
