I think that in this world there are two kinds of people. The ones who know exactly what they want to do from a very young age, and the people, like me, who have never known what their dream job is.
Regardless of whether you are part of the first or the second group, life is an absolute roller coaster and finishing college or university and not knowing what to do after, or even being unsure of your career path after years of work is something that a lot of people face.
So, I am writing this blog because the lovely Skills Team at Sunderland Software City have been working really hard on creating a programme called Tech Talent Ready which focuses on helping people find a job in tech. I keep thinking how cool this would have been when I was finishing university and unsure of what step to take next.
I don’t know if tech is your thing or not, but what I do know is that the tech industry is steadily growing in the North East and it is a great time to get involved. The region includes cities such as Newcastle, Sunderland, and Durham, which have all seen a rise in tech startups and investment in recent years. And no, with tech I don’t only mean coding and VR. Designers, Project Managers and Social Media Executives are some examples of roles in tech that don’t require a strict tech background.
Tech Talent Ready offers multiple bootcamps that you should have a look at. But today I want to talk about the Work Experience opportunities on offer. Spend two weeks working for a company where one of their teams will set a project and you’ll learn a range of possible things, such as Game Design and Development, Digital Marketing, Video Editing or Basic Software Development. Let me show you an example.
Land Digital is a leading digital agency in the North East. Through Work Experience with them, you have the possibility of spending two weeks learning how to build and market an app. You’ll gain key insights into all of the steps of the process, from ideation and branding to planning, launching or marketing your app.
And, not only is this programme fantastic because of the offer and the companies we work with, but because you’ll have the opportunity to interview with them to get a job within the organisation with the skills you have just learnt. That is not all, it gets even better! If you are not successful with your interview, our Tech Talent Ready team will be working with you for 6 months to help you find a job or find further training for you to achieve your professional goals.
Want to know the best part of all this? It is fully funded, including any travel costs and a laptop will be provided if you need one. You don’t need previous technical knowledge to be part of it, you just have to be over the age of 19, and a UK resident for at least 3 years or be an asylum seeker.
