We caught up with Benjamin Draper from Famli to hear more about how the organisation has grown after receiving support from Digital Catapult NETV.

In May 2020, Co-founders Benjamin Draper and William Testeil launched Famli, with the goal of helping families to wake up happy and healthy every day.

Since then, they have been joined by their Technical Co-founder Luke Greenwood and developed their digital platform to support children and families across the UK, all within four short years. Tasha Bowers recently caught up with Benjamin, to chat about their journey so far, challenges and plans for the future.

About Famli

In our modern tech-reliant society, tech can sometimes get a bad rep. But there is certainly an emphasis on the importance of tech for good here at Famli. Over the past few years, there has been an emphasis on healthily living, mainly highlighting that mental and emotional health are equally as important as physical health. Yet, whilst there are already hundreds of thousands of solutions out their supporting individuals with their lifestyle, there is very little support to help schools, families and wider communities. That is where Famli comes in.

Famli is the first digital solution to connect the UK’s health services, schools and families to support the overall happiness and wellbeing of all children and families in an engaging way through its digital platform and app.

In the recent years, Famli has now started licencing the software out to local authorities and health trusts across the country, enabling them to provide cost-effective and self-driven preventative healthcare solutions.

Famli is helping families to do things like:

  • Eat healthier and cook together with step-by-step easy recipes.
  • Exercise with family-friendly guided workouts and activities.
  • Improve mental and emotional health with calming meditations.
  • Create a stronger bond with group activities.

Working with Digital Catapult NETV

Initially, the team at Famli got in touch with Digital Catapult North East Tees Valley through Innovate UK Edge to receive help with their product. Working closely with Ashmita Randhawa, the team were able to learn more about their users and customers to develop a solution that matches the users' requirements to keep them engaged and lead to more long-term use.

This project helped Famli to extend its market position by offering a comprehensive solution tailored to the needs of schools, which in turn created a new sales channel and increased the potential to grow the userbase and generate revenue.

Since then, the support has also unlocked opportunities for Famli to work closely alongside local authorities and heath boards across the UK. If you would like to learn more about the support provided, you can read our case study here.

Next Steps

The future for Famli certainly looks bright. Not only are they wanting to support local families, but they are wanting to spread the message across the world to build communities of families that wake up happy and healthy.

The team at Famli are currently growing the product offering and developing an adoptable digital wellbeing platform specifically for communities to promote self-driven and preventative child healthcare and mental wellbeing. This in turn is supporting the UK Government’s goals to promote a whole community approach to promoting better physical and mental health.

Currently, they are trying to work with public health bodies, local authorities and children’s charities to spread awareness of their tech-for-good product and to positively impact as many homes across the country as possible.

Conclusion

We would just like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to Benjamin from Famli for agreeing to spend some time chatting with us about his organisation and sharing some fantastic insights.
