With its Digital and ICT Services currently making up 90 roles, covering Operational IT, Digital, Development and Business Change, they have been involved in many high-profile projects. In 2022, they formed a collaboration with Tech Talent Engine to boost its digital presence and further support the growth of the North East tech scene.

Sitting down with Tanya Johnson, Service Delivery Manager at South Tyneside Council, TechTalent Engine discussed how they have supported the council's growth.

How did you hear about Tech Talent Engine?

After stumbling across the Eventbrite page for the Tech Talent Engine launch, it piqued Tanya’s. As a collaborative organisation, Tanya knew it would be a great opportunity to boost their profile and increase applications to their vacancies.

After hearing about the sponsorship opportunities, it was the answer they were looking for – business support, marketing support and networking opportunities.

What benefit have you received from sponsorship?

During the partnership, South Tyneside Council has worked together with Tech Talent Engine on various things, including:

·      Job descriptions

·      Personal specifications

·      Adverts

·      Employer Value Proposition

As a result, it allowed them to review areas of the organisation that hadn’t been considered, such as why someone would want to work for South Tyneside Council.

Tanya adds, “Being a sponsor has given us so much value, not just in putting the adverts up but the help in re-writing our adverts and generally pointing us in the right direction of things.”

Where have you gained the most value?

For SouthTyneside Council, the greatest value has been the access to events and networking opportunities.

Tanya said, “TechTalent Live, as part of Tech NExt, was a fantastic networking opportunity. We had so many fantastic conversations with people in the room.”

What areSouth Tyneside Council’s long-term goals for the future?

South Tyneside Council has big plans for the region and its growth. Working with partners such as Tech Talent Engine, they are looking to grow its service with a new Data team within digital ICT as well as offering Digital apprenticeships at all levels.

Tanya echoes this belief, “Working with Tech Talent Engine, we feel confident that we are going to achieve our goals. It’s been an incredible advantage having access to the cohort of contacts so we can learn from others in the North East.
